Italy packaging EPR fee calculator 2026
1,000 kg of paper and cardboard placed on the market in Italy works out at €45.00 a year at the published 2026 tariff. The 200 kg of rigid plastic in the same example is not in that figure: Italy publishes no single row that stands for rigid plastic on the comparison axis this site uses, so this page leaves it out rather than picking a band on your behalf. Worked example calculated when this page was built, from the 26 Italy rate rows in our library · rates verified 2026-09-16 · EUR per tonne by material and contribution band (fascia), declared per official declaration code
Fixed part: we could not obtain an official registration fee at a page we could read logged out on 2026-09-04; we found no published minimum or membership fee from CONAI on a page we could read logged out on 2026-09-04. Both sit outside the arithmetic below, which covers only the variable, per-kilogram part. Whether you also need an authorised representative — a third fixed cost, priced commercially and not published by any official source — is answered on the registration decision page for this country.

Put your own kilograms in
Italy
Add a material and put your kilograms in — every line keeps its official rate, its source row and the date we last verified it.
One country is free here, every time, with no account and no email.
+ add another country → multi-country report, €19 one-off — Italy is free here, every time. The paid report is the same arithmetic run across every country on your list, in one PDF, with the official code, the source link and the verification date on every line.
How this is calculated
fee = kilograms placed on the market in one year × the published rate for that material, one material at a time; each line rounded to the nearest 0.01 EUR, and the total is the sum of the rounded lines. Italy publishes its tariff in EUR per tonne, so the middle column of the table below is the published rate converted to a per-kilogram figure — that conversion and this multiplication are the whole of the arithmetic.
Take your kilograms, one material at a time
Start from the weight you placed on the market in Italy over one calendar year, split by the material categories CONAI publishes. The categories are the scheme's own, not ours: the calculator above lists all 26 of them, and the worked example on this page uses 1,000 kg of paper and cardboard and 200 kg of rigid plastic.
Multiply each material by its published rate
The fee for one material is your kilograms multiplied by that material's published rate. Italy publishes the tariff in EUR per tonne, so each rate is converted to a per-kilogram figure first and then multiplied — the table below shows both numbers for every row the example used, so you can redo the arithmetic. Nothing is converted between currencies: the result is in EUR, as published, because we would have to invent the date an exchange rate was taken on.
Round each line, then add the lines up
Each line is rounded to the nearest 0.01 EUR, and the total is the sum of those rounded lines rather than the rounding of an unrounded sum. That is the only way the figures printed here add up exactly as printed when you check them on a calculator.
How the rate is published
EUR per tonne, excl. VAT — one national contribution covering household, commercial and industrial packaging
What the table's own note says
The Contributo Ambientale CONAI is a single national contribution set by the CONAI board, not a household-only tariff, and it is due once per packaging item at the "prima cessione" — the first transfer of the finished packaging from the last producer to the first user. An importer of filled packaging owes it on import. Paper, plastic, aluminium and bioplastic are split into contribution bands (fasce) by recyclability; steel, wood and glass carry one rate each. CONAI split aluminium and bioplastic into bands on 2026-08-12, the date the EU Packaging Regulation began to apply, and the superseded single rates are kept here as their own rows.
What the figure leaves out
The estimate is the variable fee only. Registration and annual membership fees, VAT and per-item charges are not in it, for the reasons set out on the site-wide calculator; this is reference data, not compliance advice, and it is only as current as the verification date on each row.
The rate rows this example used
Only the rows the worked example needed are reproduced here. The Italy tariff in our library holds 26 rate rows in total, and all of them are on the Italy rate page — each row below links straight to its own row there, and to the official page the figure was read from.

Worked example total: €45.00 — 1,000 kg of paper and cardboard at the 2026 tariff, from 1 rate row, EUR, excluding registration and annual fees. Redo it from the columns above: kilograms × per kg, rounded, added up.
200 kg of rigid plastic is not in the table above and not in the total: Italy publishes no single row that stands for rigid plastic on the comparison axis this site uses, and this page will not choose a band on your behalf. Every band Italy does publish is in the calculator above and on the rate page — pick the one that matches your packaging and it will be priced there.
