1,000 kg of paper and cardboard and 200 kg of rigid plastic placed on the market in the Netherlands works out at €261.00 a year at the published 2026 tariff. Worked example calculated when this page was built, from the 9 Netherlands rate rows in our library · rates verified 2026-08-25 · EUR per kg, excl. VAT (waste management contribution); SUP surcharge per 1,000 units

Put your own kilograms in

How this is calculated

fee = kilograms placed on the market in one year × the published rate for that material, one material at a time; each line rounded to the nearest 0.01 EUR, and the total is the sum of the rounded lines. The Netherlands publishes its tariff in EUR per kg, so the middle column of the table below is the published rate converted to a per-kilogram figure — that conversion and this multiplication are the whole of the arithmetic.

Take your kilograms, one material at a time

Start from the weight you placed on the market in the Netherlands over one calendar year, split by the material categories Verpact publishes. The categories are the scheme's own, not ours: the calculator above lists all 9 of them, and the worked example on this page uses 1,000 kg of paper and cardboard and 200 kg of rigid plastic.

Multiply each material by its published rate

The fee for one material is your kilograms multiplied by that material's published rate. The Netherlands publishes the tariff in EUR per kg, so each rate is converted to a per-kilogram figure first and then multiplied — the table below shows both numbers for every row the example used, so you can redo the arithmetic. Nothing is converted between currencies: the result is in EUR, as published, because we would have to invent the date an exchange rate was taken on.

Round each line, then add the lines up

Each line is rounded to the nearest 0.01 EUR, and the total is the sum of those rounded lines rather than the rounding of an unrounded sum. That is the only way the figures printed here add up exactly as printed when you check them on a calculator.

How the rate is published

EUR per kg, excl. VAT (plastic discounts in €/kg; SUP surcharge per 1,000 units)

What the table's own note says

Plastic Fee Differentiation discounts apply only to rigid/flexible plastic rates; combined cap 0.60 €/kg (2026).

Bonus and malus are not in this figure

The Netherlands also publishes 5 bonus/malus rows that can move your rate up or down for recyclability, recycled content or colour; 5 of them are per-kilogram discounts deducted from a material rate rather than rates of their own, and they stack. This example, and the calculator above, use the base rate only — the full table is on the Netherlands rate page.

Per-item charges cannot come out of a weight

The Netherlands also charges per item, which kilograms cannot produce, so this charge is left out of every total on this page and listed by name instead: Single-use plastic surcharge (€2.100 per 1,000 units).

What the figure leaves out

The estimate is the variable fee only. Registration and annual membership fees, VAT and per-item charges are not in it, for the reasons set out on the site-wide calculator; this is reference data, not compliance advice, and it is only as current as the verification date on each row.

Only the rows the worked example needed are reproduced here. The Netherlands tariff in our library holds 9 rate rows in total, and all of them are on the Netherlands rate page — each row below links straight to its own row there, and to the official page the figure was read from.
